Getting the Proper Fit
03. waist closure
04. jacket collar
To tell if the waist measurement is correct,
when fastening one button on your jacket,
creases or ripples should not emanate from
the button. If creases or ripples are present it
may be time to move up a size. When making a
custom suit, a skilled tailor may option a very
slight crease to accentuate waist suppression,
this helps to flatter the body. Conversely, your
jacket is too loose if the lapels are hanging
forward off your body. The button should rest
lightly against your waist.
The collar should sit well on your shoulders.
There should be no bulging or standing away
from your shirt collar. At the back, half an inch
of your shirt collar should be visible.
05. jacket length
Typically, the hem of the jacket should be in
line with your knuckles (but this can vary
depending on height). Alternatively, if you have
long arms, it should be long enough to just
cover your rear.
