Community Walk
5
Our chosen community is Barangay Tumana, Marikina City. It is a former sitio of Concepcion Uno, Marikina City. It was created on April 10, 2007 under the Republic Act No. 9432. It is the youngest among the sub-territories in the city.
Our community walk was done after our class. Our group went to the health center of baragay Tumana to ask questions about the health condition around the area. Fortunately, the one of the helpers in the health center showed us around the area and pointed out different problems around like hold-ups, gang wars and the likes. She even said that there are problems about illegal drugs in the community. The helper also walked us around and showed us the small market place they have. These showed us that the baranggay is growing although not that fast because they feel that the baranggay officials are as they say corrupt.
The activity taught us that these type of communities that most of us look down to are also productive even though it looks like they are not. Looking at barangay Tumana made me realize that although many people are afraid to pass by the place because of rumors that it is unsafe, it is not right to put them down, because they themselves are trying their best to pull themselves up.
