GOAL STATEMENT : Build trust and legitimacy with the community through purposeful interaction and accountability
OBJECTIVE 1 : Continue to increase public confidence in the Garner Police Department
Initiative 1 : Maintain a fair , consistent , competent , and transparent approach to internal affairs
Initiative 2 : Continue to share information on all social media platforms and create an avenue for dialogue with our residents
Initiative 3 : Review and revise directives in accordance with current trends , CALEA compliance , and best practices
Initiative 4 : Purposeful interactions with special populations
OBJECTIVE 2 : Continue to create additional opportunities for non-enforcement activities and interaction
Initiative 1 : Continue officer involvement in the Police Athletic / Activities League
Initiative 2 : Explore new community outreach means involving technology
Initiative 3 : Expand community outreach involving diverse communities ( e . g . Barber Shop Rap Sessions , Coffee with a Cop , community conversations )
OBJECTIVE 3 : Increase recruiting efforts that diversify applicants
Initiative 1 : Engage stakeholders from within and outside the Police Department to create a workforce that reflects our community
Initiative 2 : Constant evaluation of employment criteria , standards , and hiring practices to ensure that we attract diverse applicants
