Officer Safety and Wellness

GOAL STATEMENT : Provide for officer safety , training , and overall wellness
OBJECTIVE 1 : Expand annual officer safety training
Initiative 1 : Establish voluntary officer safety / tactical training monthly
Initiative 2 : Utilize advanced technology to enhance training capabilities and provide scenario / reality-based training that focuses on best practices for law enforcement
Initiative 3 : Provide driver training annually for all officers
OBJECTIVE 2 : Develop a comprehensive wellness program
Initiative 1 : Research implementation of a peer support program for the department
Initiative 2 : Enhance overall wellness by promoting the physiological , psychological , and emotional well-being of department employees
Initiative 3 : Provide employees with wellness time while at work
Initiative 4 : Utilize the NC Law Enforcement Assistance Program ( NCLEAP ) and / or similar programs to debrief critical incidents and to provide support to our employees
Initiative 5 : Maintain a relevant workout facility
OBJECTIVE 3 : Update and enhance the department ’ s field training program
Initiative 1 : Identify new software options for tracking and evaluating training
Initiative 2 : Offer advanced training to the FTEP managers on implementation and execution of field training
Initiative 3 : Update the current field training manual to ensure information is current with the new policies and practices
