Traffic Safety Information
Traffic safety is one approach the Garner Police Department employs to lower the risk of fatalities or serious injuries on our roads. The traffic safety team diligently enforces motor vehicle laws, educates citizens, and encourages voluntary compliance to enhance the motoring public’ s safety. The Garner Police Department engages in numerous local and regional traffic safety checkpoints across our community, supporting the Wake County Traffic Safety Task Force.
The traffic safety program aims to address all safety violations related to operating a motor vehicle. Not all traffic stops lead to a citation; only 47.88 % of the department’ s 5,797 traffic stops in 2024 resulted in a citation being issued to the driver. The remaining 52.12 % of stops resulted in either a verbal warning, a written warning, or no action taken. A small percentage of traffic stops resulted in a custodial arrest.
