D epartment A ccreditation O N MARCH 26, 1994, the Garner Police Department first became accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).  The department sought and has maintained accredited status as a means of benchmarking our policies and procedures against international best practices for law enforcement agencies, as a means of ensuring effective service delivery to the citizens of Garner, and as an ongoing demonstration of commitment to professionalism through voluntary adherence to national standards As of 2018, approximately 1080 law enforcement agencies were currently accredited by CALEA within the United States.  The Garner Police Department was most recently recommended and received its’ eighth re-accreditation from the CALEA Commission at its 2017 conference in Mobile, Alabama.  CALEA accreditation is now conferred for a period of four years. During this time, the agency is required to submit annual reports, as well as have a yearly electronic file review completed by a CALEA Compliance Service Member to document continued compliance with the standards required for law enforcement accreditation.  The Garner 20 The Garner Police Department received CALEA reaccreditation in March 2017. Police Department is currently complying with the 6th Edition manual which includes more than 460 procedural standards.
