MY opinion on moba-games and professional gaming
I want to share my honest opinion on the future of gaming and it’s inclination towards competitive play in what I believe will be a revolution in the world of sports . The gaming phenomenon started in the early 1970’s. Even though the first game in history made its appearance in the late 1940’s, the gaming experience would not reach mainstream popularity before the release of arcade games and primitive gaming consoles. Since then the community has been in constant growth and developed at a speedy pace.
However, in the past ten to fifteen years the prosperity has rose exponentially. Since the release of the first Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game, also known as Action Real Time Strategy (ARTS), StarCraft players all around the world have gotten amazed by this innovative type of gaming.
Many other MOBAs have been born based on StarCraft’s unique gameplay, one of them being the well known League of Legends (LoL). The idea of LoL is simple: team up with four other players, siege down into enemy territory and destroy their nexus. The opposing team however, is playing for the same purpose so the one team who is able to take the opposing nexus first takes the win.
These kind of games have had an enormous impact in the world of gaming and is the first genre that has been able to build a professional gaming community around it and I’m enthusiastically waiting to see what incredible future awaits us.
Since a very young age I’ve been a huge fan of video games and also consider myself especially talented at them. I was the kind of kid that could spend countless hours watching his cousins play and enjoying the show. The fact that each day that kind of future is closer makes me think about a world where a gamer’s mechanics are considered as much of a skill as a professional football player.
The audience watching the Season 3 World Championships reached the 32 million mark. This is an incredibly high number of fans if we think of it as just teens watching other people play a game. However this is e-sports, a future I’m glad to be part of.
