knew I’d only get consumed by it. It’s really just a small step toward where
you want to be. The important thing is, I’ve improved. I’m really a lot bet-
ter now than I was when the program started. The developmental side of
this program has brought my game to the next level.”
For RHA Nationals head coach, Brad Purdie, he knew the draft was part
of the deal, but he was simply pleased with the way in which his young
team performed all season.
“Look, I’m sure it was always in the back of their minds,” Purdie said.
“How could it not be? But if you don’t get drafted, so what? You know
there are always cases every year of non-drafted kids getting a good shot
with more than one WHL team and making it as 16- or 17-year-olds.
“Sometimes it pans out. Sometimes it doesn’t. Guys who don’t get
drafted as 14-year-olds still make it. Cyle McNabb with our RHA Midgets
is a prime example. He was never drafted and just signed with the Van-
couver Giants.
“We never tell guys if they come to RHA, they’ll get drafted. All of our
players worked hard this season with the hopes of being drafted. For
some it worked out, which is great for them and for those who didn’t
get drafted they really only have two choices, prove them right or prove
them wrong. Now the work really begins.”
