For 14-year-old Jacob Carels , life could be described as uncomplicated . He has the family farm and school to worry about and plays hockey because he loves the game . However , he knows things could certainly get more complicated . It ’ s his WHL Draft year and he ’ ll soon be playing midget with scouts watching and the pressure to win ratcheted up just a notch . Still , it will be nice heading to the next level with a championship on his hockey resume . This season , Carels and the Pembina Valley Hawks claimed Hockey Manitoba ’ s Rural Triple A Bantam Championship with a 3-2 win over the Eastman Selects . It was quite a thrilling championship weekend in Stonewall . “ It was a battle with five games in three days ,” head coach Reid Sloan told Dantin Reimer of Pembina Valley Online . “ The boys really came together . We upset the number one seed Yellowhead ( Chiefs ). That was excellent and really gave the boys some hope . “ Going into the finals playing Eastman , we knew that we could be successful . We had a couple of tight games with them at the end of the year and tied them in our first game at the provincials . We knew it would be close and managed to get a break with a couple minutes left in the game when they hit a post with about six seconds left . We were able to hold them off and win the championship .” The Hawks opened the championship tournament with a 4-4 tie against Eastman . Pembina Valley then played twice on Saturday , beating the Interlake Lightning 10-0 and the strong Southwest Cougars 2-1 .
