DELANEY IS GOING TO PEI TO MAJOR IN BIOLOGY
Delaney Boehm

UNIVERSITY OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
“ I pretty well knew Boehmer would be our captain one day when I first met her back in Grade 9 before coming to BH,” said Zacharias.“ Fast forward to today and she’ s leading our team in goals and is one of the brightest students on the team. But more than all that, she’ s been an incredible leader in our dressing room.” When Boehm, who started playing hockey in her hometown of East St. Paul because both her older brother and sister played hockey, went to visit the campus at PEI, she immediately fell in love.
“ The hockey program and the school program were both very appealing,” she said.“ It all fit in to what I wanted to do.
“ I’ m going out there,( Prince Edward Island) to major in biology and then hopefully get into medicine and become a doctor or a concussion specialist. This is my third year at BH. The school is as important as hockey and I’ ve done pretty well in school, I’ d say. It’ s hard work and I take Tri-Sci, biology, physics and chemistry. It’ s been a lot of hard work, but it’ s definitely going to help in the future. The future is medicine, so the work load, at the high school level, is good for me.”
Mackenzie Guimond
DefenseÏ
NORTHLAND COLLEGE
“ Mac’ s been a huge asset to our team,” said Zacharias.“ She’ s one of our strongest defensive defensemen, which comes in handy big time in our zone. She’ s the type of player that always makes the right play. It’ s never about flash or standing out with Mac, she simply gets the job done.”
Guimond chose Northlands College because of the size of the town and the atmosphere on campus.
“ It’ s a very small community( The Environmental Liberal Arts College in Ashland, Wisc.) and a small, close-knit school that isn’ t much bigger than BH,” she said.“ I just felt it was the right fit for me.”
“ I started playing when I was about six years old. When I went to my first hockey practice, I had never skated before. So learning to skate was really hard, but I was lucky that I learned to skate right across from where I lived at Oak Bluff Arena.
“ I loved skating ever since. I started hockey because I come from a big
MAC WANTS TO BE A SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHER hockey family. My cousin Meaghan Mikkelson just played for Team Canada at the Olympics. My great grandpa( Bill Mikkelson) was in the NHL. I saw a sign for hockey registration one day and I thought that was the right thing for me. I grew up playing for the McDonald Lightning and then got to BH in Grade 10 and started playing on the hockey team in Grade 11. I just love BH. I’ ve met friends here that I’ m going to have for the rest of my life. I also have coaches that I’ ll always look up to. I just love it here.
“ I want to be a teacher. I have a little sister with special needs so I hope I’ m able to become a special needs teacher and help those kids the way people have helped our family.”
