WonderCon has lovingly earned the moniker of The Biggest Little Show on the convention scene. And honestly, the title fits like a glove. The WonderCon experience is altogether something unique among the larger convention that dwarf it in both size and popularity. I’ve been lucky enough to attend conventions of all rots over the years, from the major show such as San Diego ComicCon and CES in Las Vegas, to the smaller homegrown shows like Long Beach ComicCon and my own hometowns Bakersfield ComicCon. WonderCon though sits right in the middle of all of those shows. It’s not as large, or nearly as corporate as some of the major shows have become, but at the same time isn’t a small get together.

The presence of media and entertainment companies are present here; DC Comics and Nintendo both had large booths with lots of new content on display, but the smaller publishers and independent artists really shine. Comic artists, indie movie houses, writers and cosplayers really take center stage at WonderCon. The shows fills up the Anaheim Convention center and spreads out among several floors, hosting a number of smaller private events and screenings for new or upcoming works from creators and studios alike. The big reveal of the show was the premier of the new animated film from DC, “Son of Batman”. An animated film, especially from the talent at DC, is quite a treat for comic fans, but not something that will set the internet ablaze like nearly any event that premiers at Hall H at San Diego ComicCon.
