Nvidia Shield Portable 2
Prototype Found in Pawn Shop
The Nvidia Shield Portable was probably the least successful of the Shield line.
Which isn’t really an insult or anything; it was a well designed and built device.
But it didn’t really fill its supposed niche (or said niche wasn’t large enough for it),
and the line grew on without it. Story’s over, right? Wrong.
There were plans for an Nvidia Shield Portable 2
on the table. Though it never came to fruition,
there were demo units sent to developers. And as
luck would have it, Reddit user
FwrigginRwootbeer found and bought one in a
Canadian pawn shop in a small town. While the
prototype Portable 2 does have better specs, you
can’t really upgrade the firmware or anything
without bricking it. Still, it’s interesting to see
what they were going for.
Street Fighter II Gets 30th Anniversary SNES Cart
Capcom has teamed up with iam8bit to produce a limited run of Street Fighter II cartridges. The news comes as a celebration of Street Fighter’s 30th
anniversary.
The cartridges will run on original SNES hardware. The carts come in two colors: Opaque Ryu Headband Red and Translucent, Glow-in-the-Dark
Blanka Green, both costing $100. That said, of the 5,500 carts produced, only 1,000 will come in Blanka green, and they’re to be issued at random. Still,
all of the carts will come with the same pack-ins:
The game cart itself; Tri-fold box with foil, gloss
embossments; Premium instruction booklet;
Retro pack-in surprises; Package design &
restoration by Jango Snow Art & Design.
The company has issued a statement saying the
cartridges could cause your console to overheat,
even catch on fire. I guess that’s what happens
when you forgo the Official Nintendo Seal of
Quality (they’re not officially licensed by
Nintendo). They’re meant to be treated as
collectible reproductions, after all. Still, I’m sure
there’s fans that consider burning to death to be
an acceptable risk to get their Street Fighter II
game on. Regardless, pre-orders are on right
now, and the carts ship in late November. So
hustle if you want one, ’cause they’re gonna go
fast.
