What has been verified was that the couple had a daughter, MARGARETA HVITFELDT, born on
5th November 1608 at Skebreds, Southern Norway. Margareta spent most of her childhood at
Sundsby, Sweden, living with her grandmother, known as GUERRE GREEN who must have been
the father’s mother. The ‘Green’ part of her name is puzzling? Is it an aberration of a Swedish
name or word? When Gurre died in 1628 Margareta inherited an estate or town on Tjorn
called Sundsby.
Sundsby still functions to this day and If you can read Swedish you can Google Sundsby.
By the time she was twenty, Margareta owned many properties in Norway and many farms
and estates on Tjorn and environs, including West Hjalteby, Hero Village, Tjorns (Available on
Google in English).
It is logical to assume that Margareta married a man by the name of Anders as their son was
surnamed Andersson and traditionally sons were named after their father with the addition of
‘son’. Daughters were named with the suffix ‘dotter’. There is no record of the husband. There
is, however, a puzzling listing at the beginning of the female ancestry of a Gudmund Enartson
and Karin Svensdotter (late 1600s). Their daughter is listed as Anna Gudmundsdotter who
married Nils Andersson sometime early in 1700.
These people are a puzzle as they lived after Margareta and her husband’s time. But, by the
fact that they are listed it may not be too fanciful to wonder if they were in some way
connected to Margareta’s husband. We’ll probably never know. There were many Anders’ and
Andersonn’s.
In 1642, Margareta had a son, ENGELBREKT ANDERSSON born on West Hjalteby. He died in
1728 and his body is entombed in the Hvitfeldt family tombs in a crypt at Walla church on
Tjorn.
After Margareta’s death in 1683 the FOUNDATION OF HVITVELDT was set up for the purpose
of enabling thirty young men to study for the army each year in Gothenborg. At the time of
compiling the research it was reported to be still running, although I haven’t been able to find
reference to it on the ‘net. It was also reported that the generous sum of 900 000 Swedish
Kroner is distributed annually. The mystery may in some way be solved when one reads of
another extraordinary estate, Norden? e???????????????????????5??????!??????)??????????????(??M?????????????????????AIP???????????????????????????9?????e???)%????????????????????????????????????????+?
