BRITISH ARMY SIDE
London GAA recently received an application from the Irish
Guard unit of the British Army in the region to enter a foot-
ball team in next year’s junior competitions. The application
was reviewed early this week at a London GAA board meeting
where Sergeant Ken Fox from the Irish Guards addressed the
meeting on his team’s wish to play Gaelic football with London
GAA. The meeting then voted on the application and after a
15-15 split with 5 abstaining, London GAA Chairman Noel
O’Sullivan cast his vote and the application or affiliation was
approved on his vote.
The Irish Guards have approximately 40 players, aged between 18-40. The unit is now based in Hounslow for the next
2.5 years when they will move back to Aldershot (about 40
mile west of London) and they hope to continue to play beyond that. They Sergeant said that they will be are passionate
about Gaelic Football and are open to players outside the regiment to play for them in the junior championship next March.
