conceded goals in both halves, three in all, they were
always in control of this game and at the final whistle
took victory by 2-10 to 3-3. Joe’s have also qualified for
the Division 2 or intermediate league final and are also
going well in the championship so they could have a
wonderful year.
In the Malarkey Cup for junior football teams, Eire Og
saw off Crawley in their semi-final and meet St. Clarets
in the final this weekend. In the Ryan Cup in hurling,
London county champions Kilburn Gaels advanced to
the final when defeating Sean Treacy’s by four points in
a low-scoring 0-14 to 0-10. The other semi-final between Robert Emmetts and St. Gabriels is yet to be decided. Meanwhile, in the London Senior Cup for English born players, a competition that was introduced a
few years back, Tir Chonaill Gaels qualified for the decider when beating Round Towers and will face either
Heston Gaels or St. Kiernans, the defending champions
in the final. The winners of this five team competition
will represent London in the All Britain Home Grown
Football Championship.

CHAMPIONSHIPS AND SURPRISES
The first surprise of recent action saw Brothers Pearse give a
walkover to St. Gabriels last weekend, July 31st in the hurling
championship group stage. If they concede again Bros. Pearse will
be out. In the group stage of the Intermediate Hurling Championship last weekend, we had another surprise when Thomas McCurtains accounted for Fr. Murphy’s by 2-13 to 1-8. Murphy’s had
a convincing victory the prior week when defeating Granuaille
but came out second best on Saturday last.
In round 2 of the Intermediate Football Championship in Group
2 again on Saturday August 1, after a good win over Tara in Round
1, Cuchulainns took a heavy defeat from Harlesden Harps. St. Joseph’s sustained their great form when beating Tara. In Group 2,
the surprises continued when Garryowen rather easily accounted
for Moindearg by 3-10 to 1-2, while St. Brendans overturned Heston Gaels by 1-5 to 3-10. In the Junior Football Championship
Round 2, there were wins for Tir Chonaill Gaels, St. Clarets, Shalloe Pearse and St. Anthony’s. Eire Og and Crawley & Brighton
Gaels losses to Anthony’s and Shalloe Pearse respectively were
unexpected. Another round remains before the semis are decided.
