The game started off with both teams taking their scoring chances, yet a determined Young Irelands proved to be too strong for Bondi as the final whistle blew. The second men’s match up was between Penrith Gaels and Clan Na Gael. Penrith had lost their opening match so were out for victory and that was certainly made clear in the opening minutes of the game. Penrith were able to put themselves into score-able positions and left Clan chasing the game. McAnallens kept their winning streak alive into the second round game, with the tragic loss of a former team member, Aaron Devlin. McAnallen’s felt they had a point to prove for themselves and Aaron, and yet again they had a comfortable win over Michael Cusacks who just could not get into the game. LADIES FOOTBALL The first ladies game of the championship was between Cormac McAnallens and Michael Cusacks. Things began as expected with a high intensity which remained through the full 50mins. The game was very even but two McAnallens goals helped seal victory. Young Irelands were up against tough competition in the form of Central Coast in their bid to stay unbeaten this year. In the starting minutes Young Ireland contended for majority of the ball but once Coast found there comfort zone it was different. Coast went on for a comfortable win. Clan Na Gael played Penrith Gaels in a tough contest between old rivalries. The first half brought some very interesting football from both sides. Penrith, the weaker team, stood up to Clan and didn’t let them take complete control of the game. Clan powered ahead with the help of an early goal in the second half to help them win their first game of the championship. In Round 2 on Sunday at Monarch Fields, Penrith Gaels came up against a very strong Central Coast who dominated for the majority. Penrith didn’t lose faith throughout the game continually battling for every ball and contesting each tackle. However the Coast continued their winning streak with yet another comfortable win.
