OUTDOOR SEASON BEGINS
A brand new outdoor season for St.
Louis Gaelic Athletic Club got under
way on Saturday, March 28th with the
start of the Summer Hurling League
at St. Vincent Park.
This event is the highlight of the
year for hurlers attached to this Missouri club and is a very competitive
league. Helping to make things competitive is the St. Louis draft which
was held recently and allows for both
experienced players and those new
to hurling spread across 8 teams in a
12-aside format. The league is played
each Saturday – with breaks for holidays & tournaments – and after 10
rounds the best 4 sides qualify for the
playoffs in June.

The opening game of the season saw McGurks take on
Tower Pub. The early stages of the league can see a little
rustiness with some teams not quite up to speed on both fitness levels and sharpness. Cork native Enda O’Donovan, a
local power-house over the past number of years, sent over
some early points for McGurks. He wasn’t alone in the scoring stakes for his team as American Josh West struck for
four goals and by the half, McGurks were in total control,
32
while Tower without two of their better players were struggling. McGurks continued to power on for the second half
and took a comfortable victory by a points total of 32 to 3 (no
goals breakdown available). Tower are the defending champions and while the teams change each season, several core
players remain and no doubt this team will show improvement as the season progresses.
GAME 2
This match saw O’Shay’s Pub face Tigin and this one proved
to be a much closer affair. Tigin were one of those teams that
