The two-game series on Thursday April 9 and Sunday April 12 will be decided on an aggregate score and the visit of this high calibre Ulster outfit will offer a much needed test to the New York footballers ahead of their big game against Galway. “We have prepared hard as a team over the last three months for these games and this will give us invaluable preparation for our Connacht Championship game against Galway,” said Galvin. “We have endured another rough winter here in New York and we are glad to finally be able to play football again with no snow mounds on the pitch.” There will also be appearances over the course of the series by the footballers from the Cavan NY club, the Manhattan Gaels, the Cavan ladies and also several youth teams. It promises to be a memorable couple of days for GAA fans in New York. Easter Sunday, April 5, was OPENING DAY at Gaelic Park with the highlight seeing Navillus Senior Football champions NY Kerry in action against NY Cavan. The result however didn’t go the champion’s way as NY Cavan ran out impressive winners by 2-13 to 1-5. The other senior game was a closer affair with NY Cork defeating NY Monaghan by 0-16 to 1-10. The first action of the new season saw NY Westmeath get off to a good start with a win over NY Longford in the Junior A Football Championship. In other news, the John Joe Cassidy 7 a side memorial tournament is taking place next Saturday April 11th on fields 82 and 85 in Randall’s Island, NYC. The competition takes place at 10pm sharp and will include teams NY Cavan, NY Sligo, NY Mayo, NY Longford, NY Westmeath , NY Kerry, Brooklyn, Wolfe Tones Boston, Cork Boston and Galway Boston. The draw for the tournament will take place at 11:00am and will include two groups of five teams with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals. The winner of each group will play the runner up from the opposite group at the semi-final stage. Also in the news, NY GAA has a new hurling development officer for the Gaelic Athletic Association of Greater New York, Michael O’Sullivan who started his new role recently with visits to a Manhattan Public School and Kean University in New Jersey.
