The two-game series on
Thursday April 9 and Sunday
April 12 will be decided on an
aggregate score and the visit
of this high calibre Ulster outfit will offer a much needed
test to the New York footballers ahead of their big game
against Galway.
“We have prepared hard as a
team over the last three months
for these games and this will
give us invaluable preparation
for our Connacht Championship game against Galway,”
said Galvin.
“We have endured another
rough winter here in New York
and we are glad to finally be able to play football again with
no snow mounds on the pitch.”
There will also be appearances over the course of the
series by the footballers from the Cavan NY club, the
Manhattan Gaels, the Cavan ladies and also several youth
teams.
It promises to be a memorable couple of days for GAA
fans in New York.
Easter Sunday, April 5, was OPENING DAY at Gaelic Park
with the highlight seeing Navillus Senior Football champions NY Kerry in action against NY Cavan. The result
however didn’t go the champion’s way as NY Cavan ran out
impressive winners by 2-13 to 1-5. The other senior game
was a closer affair with NY Cork defeating NY Monaghan
by 0-16 to 1-10. The first action of the new season saw NY
Westmeath get off to a good start with a win over NY Longford in the Junior A Football Championship.
In other news, the John Joe Cassidy 7 a side memorial tournament is taking place next Saturday April 11th on fields 82
and 85 in Randall’s Island, NYC. The competition takes place
at 10pm sharp and will include teams NY Cavan, NY Sligo,
NY Mayo, NY Longford, NY Westmeath , NY Kerry, Brooklyn, Wolfe Tones Boston, Cork Boston and Galway Boston.
The draw for the tournament will take place at 11:00am and
will include two groups of five teams with the top two teams
from each group progressing to the semi-finals. The winner of each group will play the runner up from the opposite
group at the semi-final stage.
Also in the news, NY GAA has a new hurling development
officer for the Gaelic Athletic Association of Greater New
York, Michael O’Sullivan who started his new role recently
with visits to a Manhattan Public School and Kean University
in New Jersey.
John Riordan is NY GAA PRO.
