Montana seniors and juniors, Seattle Gaels, Willamette and
defending champions Columbia Red Branch (CRB) from
Oregon and host’s Tacoma. In football the three teams were
new side Portland Eireannach, Seattle and Tacoma.
In Hurling, in the Seattle v CRB game there was very
little between the sides with the latter shading things by
1-8 to 1-6. Montana had beaten CRB twice last season and
in their matchup we had a similar result with the senior
Grizzlies scoring 4-10 to their opponents 4-3. This was
a good performance though from a depleted CRB side.
Montana had a more comfortable win against Seattle,
while the latter had too much for host’s Tacoma in their
game. Meanwhile, Willamette who are also a young club,
did well when ousting Montana Juniors by 5-3 to 4-4.
Gaelic Football is less advanced in the Northwest region
in this their second year of tournament action. New side
Portland Eireannach look to be the team to beat this year
as they had too much for both Seattle and Tacoma. The
Seattle v Portland match was a close and competitive affair
with Portland doing enough for a 5-5 to 3-3 result.
In Tacoma’s match against Portland, the host’s did very
well early on but a bad opening second half saw them give
up some easy goals from which they never recovered. The
Football teams in the Northwest look to be competitive this
season.
There was no final for either code as the tournament was
set up to focus on matching teams up with similar playing
levels to give everyone the best possible matches instead of
a traditional tournament.
Tacoma will next host tournaments in August with Hurling on August 8th and Football on August 22nd.
