State agencies working with the state’s offender population are public safety partners. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles, Georgia Department of Corrections and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision routinely review the state’s offender information.

“More opportunities exist today than ever before for offenders incarcerated with the Department of Corrections. The Parole Board is keenly interested in inmates preparing themselves for reentry and they are getting those opportunities in the state’s prison facilities,” states Parole Board Chairman Terry Barnard.

“It remains imperative that our agencies work closely together with the offender population. Most offenders will leave prison one day by completing their sentences or possibly to serve parole. By working together to prepare these offenders for success after prison, our communities become safer places to live and raise our families,” stated Chris Barnett, the Executive Director of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.

During the pandemic, the agencies have met virtually or by phone.

“It’s important that we continue to meet to ensure we’re working together toward enhanced public safety. Strong professional relationships with our agency partners are critical to successful offender reentry,” added Barnett.
