PHAILIN
Nature has proved its power once again in the past 6 months. It’s just being 2 months that people of uttrakhand have started settling that nature alarmed another part of India with its havoc.
It’s being a month that we have shifted to odisha and are about to receive welcome note.Inspite of early warnings and knowing the actual time of arrival ,my imagination didn't went up to the extent PHAILIN had caused destruction. 12th October started as a usual day with power cut as expected and was completely cloudy outside. We were all set to face it with backups, gadgets fully charged, water stored for next three days, as well as mentally ready for a week's power cut. The place where I am residing is Berhampur (ganjam district) some 12km from gopalpur where Phailin was supposed to hit. Berhampur until a day before was completely glittering was all set to welcome auspious Navratri but had to welcome something unwanted and something very powerful. We thoroughly studied about cyclone geographically, pictorically,satellite images, the do's and don’ts during cyclone and heard a word or two from officials thanks to IMD department and our news channels. We were all equipped with stuff in mind as well as hands. The time in clock passed like 5:00,5:30,6:00,6:30,7:00....waiting for the eye of the cyclone to hit gopalpur but the time in mind was a countdown10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1......and that’s it. Landslide there and storm all around here, it had its ultimate horrifying and terrifying effect. I could actually feel the wind blowing above my hands this was when I was inside a packed house. Pity for the ones who were shelter less and the helpless animals. A roar came from the bottom of my heart for all living beings that might be struck in this cyclonic arena. The intensity was so high that it had blown all possible things on its way, street lights, electric poles,trees,towers,kaccha houses, there was a clean sweep all around.
