EWB - the three letters that have taken GITAM by a storm in the past 2 months. The organization expanded from a meager 10 member troupe to a 250 member organization within a month and a half. An organization that has garnered quite a good attention from people around,is one to definitely watch out for.
EWB- Engineers without borders was started in France in the year,1981. It’s motto was simple-“Take up day to day problems and solve it using engineering innovations”. Since then, the organization has come many steps and is an internationally famed organization now. It has branches in over 25 countries which include Germany, France, UK, USA, Brazil and also India.
In India, EWB was started in 2005 and is now spread across various renowned colleges and universities. As far as GITAM is concerned, it was started in GITAM - Hyd in the year,2011. In the Vizag campus it was started on 21st march, 2013. The official inauguration was held in Ambedkar hall, which was attended by Dr. K Laksmi Prasad, Principal GIT, Dr. P Dharmaraju, Vice-Principal GIT and Dr. Ashok Agarwal, Chairman EWB, India.
Since it’s inception, it has shown exponential growth and very quickly grew into one of the largest organizations in the campus.
“We have started this organization in GITAM as I feel this would give us exposure to practical knowledge and application, also we want to help the society with our innovative skills”,said Mr. Bharat yadagiri , president of EWB, GITAM (Vizag), when questioned about the organization's cause.
Having an membership cost of 360 rupees and with over 250 members they might just be one of the well – funded organizations. Defending their stance towards monetary issues, the vice-president of the organization miss Akshita ensured “ we are an organization dedicated to community service, the whole sum will be used for the benefit of the society. We are a non-profit organization and the only gain we want is practical knowledge of Engineering”
“This is all good to hear, but are they really doing any work?”Many such questions were asked and eyebrows raised. Is work really happening??
