ENGINEERS VS EMPLOYABILITY
FROM THE EDITORIAL BOARD
In my opinion, Engineering or in fact becoming an engineer doesn’ t just mean earning a job. The rush towards being employed right after engineering is very common since a long time. Clearing all subjects, finishing off with B. Tech and then getting right away into a job is not enough anymore. Being exposed to the industry and having a practical approach of doing things is what is necessary in the recent times. We have been looking at unemployment among engineers and this is continuing to grow at a fast pace. Moreover, the current curriculum provided to the students might not give enough time for practicality to all the students. In such situations, students can consider higher studies before employment. This gives them sufficient time to be exposed to the industry and also helps in building their knowledge even further. Doing this increases the chances of being employed, and good wages and recognition can be expected.

A huge number of engineers graduate in India every year but the grim reality is a handful of them are employable. Most engineers lack proper communication and leadership skills, which cannot be taught in a span of four years. They fail to perform well in logical, critical reasoning and numerical ability sections of the aptitude test. While technology changes at a rapid pace, syllabus updating occurs only after several years. Moreover, the curriculum has been designed to focus on theoretical learning rather than practical. Thus, students lack adequate knowledge and understanding of basic concepts

The number of engineers graduating every year is growing exponentially. To survive in this employment bottleneck, students are diverting from the traditional ways of learning which includes more of hands-on session and jumping into that slot where it is quite easy to gain a good percentage. Attending a placement drive is to market your skills. The good the marketing, the better job you get. Engineers today lack the ability to communicate to the companies what knowledge they have. The employability vs. engineers graph will have a positive slope provided the students learn rather than been taught how to make their identity in the required sector by learning their pros and cons initially, ponder for the right opportunity and utilize to the fullest.
