Arlington Water Utilities Laboratory and Maintenance Building – Groundbreaking
The new Arlington Water Utilities Laboratory and Maintenance Building will combine two buildings that are both in need of expansion and updating into one modern 26,825-square-foot facility . The construction contract also includes : the remodel of a mini-lab , offices , and control room improvements at the John F . Kubala Treatment Plant on U . S . Hwy 287 , which currently has limited space for staff .
Construction on the project started in May , after a ceremonial groundbreaking featuring remarks from water department and City of Arlington officials . The City of Arlington selected Source Building Group , Inc ., of Fort Worth , for the lab and maintenance building project through a competitive sealed proposal procurement method for the construction contract . Source Building is an MWBE ( Minority / Women Business Enterprise ) firm with a portfolio of successful projects throughout North Texas .
The City ’ s two Water Treatment Plants produced more than 21 billion gallons of water in 2022 . During that time , Arlington Water Utilities laboratory employees also collected and tested 6,131 samples from the treatment plants and throughout the city ’ s distribution system .

A total of 89,362 Water Utilities customers had remotely read water meters as of January 2023 . More new meters are installed each month . Customers with remotely read meters can view their daily and hourly water usage numbers , as well as past bills and payments , by visiting

Customers can also sign up for high bill and high usage alerts that will automatically send email alerts when their bill is on track to be higher than they ’ d like and recommend steps they can take to decrease water use . In January 2023 , 4,158 water customers had signed up for the alerts .
