Civil Service - Year Two
It was a busy year for Arlington’s Civil Service Commission as two entry-level exams were conducted in
compliance with Chapter 143 and Local Rules. Separate exams were given for firefighter candidates and fire
inspector candidates. Both tests were conducted in order to fill expected vacancies in the Fire Department.
Additionally, there were four promotional exams conducted for the Fire Department’s Operations Division and
two promotional exams for the Prevention Division. The Commission held test question appeal hearings for
positions of Apparatus Operator and Lieutenant. Civil Service Local Rules adjustments were approved by the
Commission in February and July of 2019. The Commission’s first chair, Chaplain Richmond Stoglin's term
ended on June 26, 2019. Pamela Roach became the Commission’s next chair, while Cindy Dao was appointed
as new Commissioner on June 27, 2019.
