Arlington continues to grow vertically, and with this growth
comes the increased risk of fires and rescues in larger multi-
story and mixed-use buildings. After extensive testing and
research, the Department made changes to some of the hose
and nozzle packages on our automotive pumping apparatus
(fire engines) to incorporate larger diameter (2.5 inch) hose
and smooth bore nozzles. The entire Department trained and
learned about these changes and how the new hose and nozzle
packages can provide larger volumes of water, lower nozzle
pressures and improved firefighter performance. Our training
included classes with a highrise fire subject matter expert and
a careful review and alignment of our policies and procedures
with regional mutual aid city partners. The Wichita Falls Fire
Department came to Arlington Fire Training to explore our
Modern Fire Dynamics implementation and our new hose and
nozzle package. Highrise training is a multi-year process and
the next steps are to provide multi-company training evolutions
and command and control classes for the entire organization.
