The Office of Emergency Management
(OEM) is responsible for coordinating
large-scale City of Arlington
emergency response operations,
managing and testing the outdoor
warning system, maintaining the operational readiness of the
Emergency Operations Center (EOC), monitoring for severe
weather events impacting the City, overseeing Urban Areas
Security Initiative (UASI) funds from the U.S. Department of
Homeland
Security,
conducting training classes
for the citizen volunteer
C o mmu n i t y
Emergency
Response Team (CERT), and
coordinating
volunteers
through
the
Arlington
Christian Disaster Network
(ACDN).
90 CERT members volunteered 1,829 hours in
FY17 and were trained on 12 different topics
including active shooter awareness, search and
rescue, disaster psychology, and first aid. They
were a valuable resource during a wide area
search for a missing person at Lake Arlington.

FEMA Award
ACDN was named the
2017 Outstanding Citizen Corp Partner Program
by the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) for its partnership with the OEM’s CERT.
ACDN was established in 2012 and is comprised
of 17 local faith-based organizations. They
provide trained volunteers to meet the
community’s need during a disaster.
