Public Information Officer
The Arlington Fire Department’s Public Information Officer (PIO) is
tasked with providing the citizens and media with information regarding life
safety issues, community activities, and emergency incidents. Public information
and communication is accomplished through a variety of methods including
social media accounts, community events, and local print/digital media.
Notable Accomplishments in FY 2016:
David Tyler
Increased social media engagement led to a 68% rise in Facebook
“Likes” and a 33% rise in Twitter followers
AFD attended 198 scheduled fire/life
safety programs, reaching 14,825
attendees
Vial of Life presentations given at
multiple large events through the city
Formed partnership with American
Red Cross to receive free smoke
alarms for citizens
Free fire alarm installations increased 23% due to citizen requests;
more than 450 alarms were installed during installation drives with
Red Cross and community volunteers
