The Fire Department implemented a new state-of-theart Computer Aided Dispatch system in March 2013,
and acclimated the types of calls dispatched to the
Fire, EMS, and Other Emergencies calls for service
categories. We also added a new Special Operations
call category as part of the overall improvement
strategy.

motion was to demonstrate workload, evaluate
efficiency and review operational needs based on the

Working Together to Make Arlington Better.
Other Emergency calls are comprised of assisting
the Arlington Police Department, aid given to other
municipalities, automatic alarms, hazard
investigations, and requests for assistance calls.
Special Operations were previously included in the
Other Emergency call category. For FY2013, they
are a separate group comprised of specialized
rescues, HazMat investigations and mitigations,
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) investigation
and mitigations, and hazard investigations by the
Gas Well Response Team.
