Fire Prevention—EOD Team The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team is comprised of Fire Prevention Inspectors and Investigators who are crosstrained to address the threat of explosive devices. The EOD Team retired its first canine and began implementing a new generation of canines called Vapor Wake. Several team members are both dog handlers and certified bomb technicians. The team provides pre-event sweeps of major DARIN NIEDERHAUS MORKITA ANTHONY venues in Arlington and throughout the country, investigates suspicious packages and disposes of explosives. In addition, the team provided support for Secret Service, federal search warrants, and most notably the Opening of the Bush Library in Dallas. Fire Resource The Fire Resource Section is tasked with providing the supplies and tools needed to operate and maintain the 17 fire stations, 17 engine companies, and five Ladder companies of the Arlington Fire Department to include the purchasing, maintaining, repairing, and delivering of equipment and supplies that range from firefighters’ personal protective clothing to appliances for fire stations. A new supervisor and two new assistants were hired for Fire Resource at the end of FY12. FY13 has included training of new personnel and reorganizing the Resource facility. This has enabled staff to better meet the needs of the employees on the line and provide better all-around customer service. The Fire Resource Section completed 4,639 work orders for supplies and equipment repair and also processed 48 grant requests for various divisions throughout the Arlington Fire Department. Through the equipment replacement and upgrade programs, Fire Resource replaced 52 sets of bunker gear, 272 winter coats, 2,529 t-shirts, and 259 job shirts. In addition, sizing was completed for dress uniforms for sworn personnel. Five fire stations received new lawnmowers. DANA SHANKS Administrative Services Administrative Services directly supports the missions of the Fire Department. Responsibilities include fiscal management of Fire Department funds, including development and management of the Fire Department’s operating budget, oversight of the 911 Dispatch budget, and assistance with documentation of SAFER and UASI grant expenditures. Cost recovery is pursued for large-scale incidents. During EOC activation, Administrative Services staffs the Finance section under the requirements of the Incident Command System. The section is responsible for coordinating technology issues, administration of the Firehouse record management system, development of automated reporting tools and analysis of data.
