Two-In/Two-Out
The average two-in/two-out
interval is calculated based
on the time between the first
and second unit arriving on
scene for a structure fire. The
two-in/two-out standard is a
safety precaution that helps
decrease the risk of injury
and death for fire fighters. It
ensures there are at least two
firefighters outside during an
interior structural fire,
prepared to enter, if
necessary, to rescue the
firefighters inside. In FY2012,
the average was one minute
thirty three seconds.
