Fire Resource
The Fire Resource Section is tasked with providing the
supplies and tools needed to operate and maintain the
17 fire stations, 17 engine companies, and five Ladder
companies of the Arlington Fire Department to include
the purchasing, maintaining, repairing, and delivering of
equipment and supplies that range from firefighters’
personal protective clothing to appliances for fire
stations.
During FY2012 there was a turnover of three of the four
personnel assigned to the Fire Resource Section. To
manage Fire Resource Section during this transition, a
Captain from the Fire Rescue Division was temporarily reassigned to Fire Resource.
Also during FY2012, the move into the new 7,469 square feet Fire Resource Facility was
completed. The facility includes a uniform room, a personal protective equipment storage and
maintenance room, a self contained breathing apparatus and flashlight repair area, a small engine
maintenance shop, and warehouse storage.
The Fire Resource Section completed 3,109 work orders for supplies and equipment repair and
also processed 103 grant requests for various divisions throughout the Arlington Fire Department.
Through the equipment replacement and upgrade programs, Fire Resource replaced 56 fire attack
nozzles, five positive pressure ventilation fans, five rescue tool power units, three rescue rams, 78
water rescue throw bags, and 130 rescue/search flashlights.
Fire Resource personnel provided field training to 65 personnel of the Fire Rescue Division on the
proper operation of the Light & Air Support Unit. All 300+ members of the Fire Rescue Division
received training in efficient and effective resource utilization, which included instruction in a new
work order system.
Following the tornado in April 2012, Fire Resource
staffed the Logistics Section at the Emergency
Operations Center. Fire Resource personnel provided
825 meals, 1,600 drinks, 500 pounds of ice, and 700
snacks to both staff and field personnel.
Annual equipment testing included: hydraulic rescue
tools, personal protective equipment and self contained
breathing apparatus all in accordance with National Fire
protection Association and Texas Commission on Fire
Protection standards.
