FY2012 Arlington Fire Department Annual Report FY 2012 | Page 34

Preplanning Utilizing the Fire CAD Zone software program, the Division began production of all Target Hazards, Initial Action Plans, Apartment Complexes, and Gas Well Site preplans and drawings. The goal is to have a quality pre-incident fire plan available electronically for responding crews. To prepare pre-incident fire plans all fire crews are actively engaged with the community by visiting these and other businesses, building positive relationships, and identifying hazards that may affect both emergency responders and business employees. After a year of working to train all fire crews on how to use the program and the parameters of what constitutes a standardized pre-incident plan, many have been completed. The finished product will contain a general information page, a page outlining helpful instructions for first arriving crews, a site plan showing the exterior footprint of the structure, and floor plan(s) outlining the interior layout of the business. The intent of the site plan and floor plan(s) is to provide emergency responders with a guide to quickly identify hazards, traps, utilities, hydrants, etc. The general information page provides owner and management information, as well as other vital information for the Incident Commander. Future use of this program will include pre-incident planning of all gas well sites and updating all apartment plats used by fire companies. During calendar year 2012 training classes were held, reaching approximately 80% of the department on how to draw using this program. Others will be scheduled in 2013 as we continue to develop new uses for the Fire CAD Zone program. DUTY / HONOR Working Together to Make Arlington Better. / COMPASSION 34 / EXCELLENCE
