COMPASSION
2011 MDA and other Charitable Events
This year‘s Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)
drive was held on June 23-25, 2011. Crews stood at
multiple locations from 10:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m.,
collecting donations for MDA. For the Arlington Fire
Department‘s Fill the Boot Drive, 2011 was the best
year ever. A total of $44,000 was collected.
AFD members participated in multiple fund raising
efforts for charities of all types. These efforts usually
involved Association charitable drives, individual
member initiatives or sport team efforts by both Fire
and Police teams. From coat drives, to Special
Olympics, to United Way, to Breast Cancer fund
raising, to individual need — the AFD team made a
difference and usually had fun doing it!
HONOR
When a Brownwood firefighter lost his life at the Texas
Rangers Ballpark due to an unfortunate accident,
members of the Arlington Fire Department immediately
responded to support Brownwood FD Lieutenant
Stone‘s family through the tragedy. The always vigilant
AFD Honor Guard, Chaplain Don Coker, and many
other Fire Department members volunteered their time
and served with honor - the AFD way.
