Holidays
The Town ’ s calendar includes the following recognized holidays .

New Year ’ s Day Martin Luther King , Jr . Day Good Friday Memorial Day Juneteenth Independence Day Labor Day Veteran ’ s Day � Thanksgiving ( 2 days ) � Christmas ( 3 days ) The Town also provides employees one floating holiday per fiscal year to use at the employee ' s discretion .
Additional Employee Benefits
Retirement All full-time employees and part-time employees working 1000 hours per year are covered under the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees ' Retirement System , 13.6 % for general employees and 15.01 % for law enforcement . The Town makes a 5 % contribution to the State administered 401 ( k ) plan for all employees participating in the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees ’ Retirement System . The Town offers an additional , optional retirement account through the State administered tax-deferred 457 retirement plan .
Education Assistance Full-time employees completing probation may apply for educational assistance and educational leave . Courses relating to the present job or a future position within the Town or to further an employee ' s education are considered eligible courses to pursue . The Town recently enhanced the educational assistance program by increasing the annual maximum reimbursement for courses and aligning the request and reimbursement schedule with the semester calendar rather than the fiscal year calendar .
Employee Assistance Program The Town sponsors a free Employee Assistance Program ( EAP ) which includes confidential counseling and referral services provided for stress , marital / family problems , chemical / alcohol dependency , or financial trouble .
