Employee Leave
The Town provides a variety of leave options for employees including the following :
Vacation Leave Full-time employees will accrue vacation based on years of service according to Town Policy for personal use . The standard starting accrual rate is 10 days per year and will begin increasing after two years of employment . The maximum number of vacation hours is 288 .
Sick Leave Sick leave will accrue at a rate of one day per month of service or twelve days per year for full-time employees . Sick leave will be cumulative during the employee ’ s service with the Town and may be converted upon retirement for service credit consistent with the provisions of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees ’ Retirement System . The Town accepts a sick leave balance transfer from qualifying employers .
Preventive Care Leave Employees considered full-time will also receive one day of Preventive Care Leave per fiscal year to be used for routine healthcare visits . These hours can be taken in hourly increments .
Bereavement Leave Full-time employees are eligible for 3 days of bereavement leave ( consecutive or intermittent ) per fiscal year for the death of an employee ’ s immediate family member . Immediate family members , as defined by Town Policy , include a spouse , parent , guardian , child , sister , brother , grandparent , or grandchild & the various combinations of half , step , in-law and adopted relationships that can be derived from those named .
Paid Parental Leave The Town has recently added 6 weeks of Paid Parental leave for the birth and bonding of children , placement of a child for legal guardianship or in loco parentis circumstances for regular , full-time employees .
Paid Family Illness Leave The Town offers paid family illness leave to enable an employee to care for an immediate family member with a serious health condition . The Town provides up to three weeks of paid family illness leave for regular full-time employees meeting the eligibility requirement .
Community Involvement Leave The Town provides 16 hours of community involvement leave to allow employees to volunteer in schools , communities , and non-profit organizations .
Wellness Leave The Town offers two work days of paid leave to support employees ’ mental wellness . Wellness Leave may be taken to seek time for personal self-care or to obtain services to protect or restore the employee ’ s physical , mental , emotional , or economic well-being .
