Looking Forward
The City Council ’ s six strategic priorities , Build Unity , Champion Great Neighborhoods , Enhance Regional Mobility , Invest in Our Economy , Leverage Technology , and Support Youth and Families , remain unchanged for FY24 . Each year , projects are planned , and funding is allocated with the goal of ultimately achieving these council priorities .
In FY24 , the City continues its commitment to Build Unity by implementing the recommendations of the Unity Council . Several new projects were added in FY24 in follow-up to the Unity Council ’ s 2023 Update Report . The new recommendations considered three additional areas of disparity and inclusion as directed by the City Council . Specifically , the Unity Council has set forth recommendations addressing residents that are aged 65 and older , intellectually and physically disabled individuals , and members of the LGBTQ + community .
Great Neighborhoods play a pivotal role in fostering strong communities by providing safe , vibrant spaces that promote social interaction , connection and a sense of belonging among residents . They serve as the bedrock for cultural diversity , economic growth and collective wellbeing , enriching the fabric of society and enhancing overall quality of life . In FY24 , the City will focus on increasing community engagement and volunteer support – engaged communities are strong communities .
Arlington recognizes the importance of providing adequate roadway , bicycle and pedestrian , and aviation infrastructure to ensure residents and visitors can travel safely and efficiently .
