Arlington Back on Top in 2023 National Night Out Awards
The City of Arlington is back on top for National Night Out ! The National Association of Town Watch announced that Arlington received first place in its 2023 National Night Out Awards program , which recognizes communities for outstanding participation and engagement during the annual event . More than 150 Arlington neighborhoods , organizations and businesses hosted National Night Out parties in 2023 . This marks the third time in four years ( 2020 , 2021 and 2023 ) that Arlington has taken top honors for cities with a population of 300,000 +.
Arlington , Bad Königshofen Celebrate 72 Years of Friendship with Recommitment Ceremony
Arlington ’ s Sister City , Bad Königshofen , Germany , visited The American Dream City in September 2023 to take part in a cultural exchange and recommitment ceremony .
When Arlington and Bad Königshofen became Sister Cities in 1951 , there was never any signed documentation , because Sister Cities International wasn ’ t founded until 1956 by President Dwight D . Eisenhower . This past September , Mayor Jim Ross and Bad Königshofen Burgermeister Thomas Helbling formalized the Sister Cities relationship between the two cities . The recommitment ceremony , which included an exchanging of gifts and the dedication of a state historical marker , was held beside the historic train depot platform in Downtown where Arlington residents first gathered in 1952 to begin shipping off supplies to help refugees in the small north Bavarian town . After the recommitment agreement was signed , the City presented the delegation with a brass train station bell inscribed with the motto Friendship : Solid as a Rock to take back home .

• Arlington voters approved a five-year , $ 278 million bond program in May 2023 , including :
• $ 24.6 million for parks and recreation facility
• $ 30 million for public safety facilities
• $ 1.1 million for libraries
• The Neighborhood Enhancement Team removed 28 tons of trash and debris during community cleanup events in FY23 .
• Eight Arlington parks received new playground equipment in 2023 . This replacement project included new playgrounds located at Don Misenhimer , Clarence Thompson , College Hills , Bowman Springs , Gene Schrickel , Jr ., Howard Moore , Dixon W . Holman and Mary and Jimmie Hooper parks .
• Construction began for the Wynn Terrace Senior Cottage Community , an innovative affordable rental housing development designed for Arlington residents aged 55 and up .
• The Rotary Club of Arlington commemorated its centennial by donating “ Boundless ,” a new interactive public art piece in Downtown Arlington for residents and visitors to enjoy .
