CITY BEGINS DESIGN PROCESS FOR RANDOL MILL ROAD REBUILD
With the help of Tarrant County bond funds , plans are underway to rebuild and widen an aging section of Randol Mill Road that serves as a gateway into the Entertainment District . The City Council approved an engineering services contract to design improvements for the heavily traveled section between Cooper Street and Collins Street . As part of the 2021 Tarrant County Transportation Bond Program , voters approved funding for 50 % of the City ’ s project cost , or up to $ 17 million .
The City included a request for the remainder of the necessary funding in a bond package that will be presented to Arlington voters in May 2023 . Once all funding is secured , Arlington will expand and rebuild the four-lane asphalt road to a six-lane concrete road and make other needed drainage , lighting and pedestrian improvements .
SALES TAX FUNDS HELP CREATE SMOOTHER ROADS
Public Works began a $ 10.8 million project to create smoother drives and extend the lifespan of 29 streets through the Mill and Overlay Program and a $ 6.6 million project to improve the ride quality and strength of portions of eight streets through the Street Reclamation and Miscellaneous Concrete Program . CITY COMPLETES CALENDAR ROAD REBUILD
After 18 months of construction , the City completed work to transform Calender Road from Curry Road to Harris Drive from a two-lane county asphalt road to a three-lane concrete road . The voter-approved project also included new sidewalks and pedestrian ramps , new sanitary sewer and water lines , streetlights , drainage improvements and roundabouts .

• Work began to transform Bowman Springs Road between I-20 and Enchanted Bay Boulevard to rebuild the two-lane asphalt road to a three-lane concrete road , adding a hike and bike trail , sidewalks , drainage improvements and more .
• Arlington RAPID , the first program in the U . S . to integrate on-demand , autonomous vehicles into an existing public transportation service , provided more than 28,000 trips in its first year to residents , university students and visitors around Downtown and UT Arlington campus .
