Hundreds of Volunteers Join “ Unite Arlington ”
In October 2020 , a group of local churches created a communitywide day of service known as Unite Arlington . Over the course of one weekend , 750 volunteers participated in efforts such
as much-needed home repairs and yard maintenance for seniors and widows , school beautification projects and public park cleanups . More than 100 projects in total were completed .
Arlington Water Utilities Expands Care and Share Program
When families are struggling with their water bills , the community and City are there to help . In FY20 , Arlington Water Utilities added two more local charities to administer the Care and Share Fund , which uses donations from the public to provide aid with water bills for customers facing temporary financial problems and crises .
Neighborhood Enhancement Team Tackles Cleanup Projects
Also in FY20 :
• The Downtown Arlington district introduced COVID-safe , self-guided walking tours , that give residents and visitors the chance to safely explore all Downtown has to offer .
The City ’ s Neighborhood Enhancement Team removed more than 34,000 pounds of trash and debris from Arlington neighborhoods during three cleanup events . Before the events , residents were invited to a neighborhood meeting where multiple city departments discussed opportunities that might benefit their neighborhood , keeping neighborhoods clean and safe and ways to connect with the City and each other .
