Enhance Regional Mobility

Whether it ’ s keeping pot holes filled , building new hike and bike trails or exploring driverless vehicle technology , projects that Enhance Regional Mobility and improve Arlington ’ s transportation connections within and beyond its borders are a key priority for the City .

Center Street Bridge Opens Over Interstate 20
Nearly three years after construction began , the $ 11-million Center Street bridge over Interstate 20 in south Arlington opened to drivers in March .
The bridge , paid by the City of Arlington and built by the Texas Department of Transportation , extends Center Street south of Highlander Boulevard , over the interstate and south to Bardin Road . The project aims to enhance regional mobility by relieving traffic congestion on Matlock Road and Cooper Street and making it easier for drivers to access the Arlington Highlands shopping center north of I-20 as well as neighborhoods and businesses south of the interstate .
The four-lane bridge , whose design was based on the North Central Texas Council of Governments ’ 2050 traffic projections , has the ability to expand to six lanes if necessary .
Arlington Approves On-Demand Rideshare Contract
In November , the Arlington City Council approved a contract with Via to develop and operate an ondemand rideshare program that will provide rides to select areas of the City for a flat-rate fee . Customers can book a seat on a premium shared vehicle through the Via app or a dial-in phone number , and Via ’ s sophisticated technology will match them with other

people going their way . Rides within the service area are $ 3 per trip .
The innovative transportation pilot project , which officially rolled out to the public in December 2017 , was supported by the citizen-led Transportation Advisory Committee as a near-term transportation solution for Arlington .
Transportation Advisory Committee Presents Recommendations
In September , the Transportation Advisory Committee presented recommendations to City Council on how to address Arlington ’ s present , near-term and future transportation needs .
The Council-appointed committee , composed of 31 Arlington residents and stakeholders , spent a year researching and discussing the latest innovations in transportation technology to develop its transportation vision . The committee ’ s recommendations are intended to serve as guidance for City leaders as they adopt policies and craft specific service plans to improve mobility and connectivity .
