Enhance Regional Mobility

From small residential streets to major thoroughfares, 2016 was a busy year for road construction and maintenance projects.

The City of Arlington spent an estimated $ 34 million to build new streets, including the resident-driven Tri-Schools Street Improvement Project in the southwestern section of town. Arlington spent an additional $ 12.6 million to smooth out dips, cracks and potholes in existing streets, thanks to the voter-approved quarter-cent street maintenance sales tax.
The Texas Department of Transportation( TxDOT) was also hard at work on numerous multimillion dollar projects, such as the I-30 / SH 360 Interchange Project and Center Street Bridge over I-20, designed to make our roadways safer and more efficient for motorists.
$ 330-Million State Highway 360 South Project Launches
A long-time dream of residents, business owners and elected officials moved a step closer to reality in October 2015 when TxDOT broke ground on the $ 330 million State Highway 360 South Project.
This 9.7-mile project, which stretches from Green Oaks Boulevard to U. S. 287, is designed to ease congestion in and around Arlington, Grand Prairie and Mansfield. The new four-lane toll road also aims to enhance safety and generate economic development in the area.
This project is a partnership between TxDOT, the North Texas Tollway Authority and the North Central Texas Council of Governments— as well as Ellis, Johnson and Tarrant counties, and the cities of Arlington, Grand Prairie and Mansfield.
TxDOT will build and finance the first phase of the project, expected to be substantially complete by late 2017. In addition to the $ 330 million being paid by TxDOT, the City of Arlington provided $ 1.1 million for intersection improvements on Webb Lynn Road, Sublett Road, Debbie Lane and New York Avenue. An additional $ 3.2 million in funding from the 2014 Bond Election helped realign the New York Avenue / Eden Road intersection.

Yet another multimillion dollar project to Enhance Regional Mobility kicked off in March 2016 with the groundbreaking of the I-30 / SH 360 Interchange Project.
The $ 233-million Interchange Project, designed to reduce traffic congestion on both high-volume highways and improve safety for the traveling public, is the largest statefunded project in Texas. The modern interchange will connect both directions of I-30 with both directions of SH 360, allowing motorists to move seamlessly between the highways instead of exiting onto local streets with traffic lights and stop signs. The project, approved by the Texas Transportation Commission in 2015, is set to be complete by 2020.
