Investing In Our Economy
T
he Arlington City Council identified “Invest In Our Economy” as a vital component to ensure that our
community continues to thrive.
With a newly adopted comprehensive strategy in place, the Office of Economic Development worked to
keep investment momentum going strong in the American Dream City through targeted recruitment, enhanced
marketing initiatives and an increased focus on transformative redevelopment opportunities.
From welcoming nationally known businesses or celebrating reinvestment and expansion of long-term
corporate partners, Arlington continued to create a pro-business climate and strengthen its position in FY15 as a
key city in the North Texas region.

Arlington Assembly Plant
D.R. Horton, Inc. Moving
Headquarters to Arlington
General Motors announced
in July 2015 that it would invest
$1.4 billion for an expansion at
the Arlington Assembly Plant, the
largest single plant investment in
the United States that year.
The investment, which included
raising the total minimum number
of employees at the plant to 3,179
and 1.2 million square feet of plant
expansion, will allow the Arlington
Assembly Plant to continue to
competitively produce high-quality,
full-size SUVs.
General Motors is one of the
biggest employers in Arlington
and North Texas and is a key part
of the City’s economic foundation.
Since 2011, GM has invested
nearly $2 billion in manufacturing
improvements at the Arlington
Assembly Plant.
Fortune 500 company
D.R. Horton, Inc., the nation’s
largest builder, announced
plans to relocate its corporate
headquarters to a new, companyowned facility that would be
built in North Arlington. The
150,000-square-foot campus,
a $20-million investment, is
expected to bring 500 jobs to
the City. D.R. Horton’s new
headquarters will be on a six-acre
campus along the Interstate 30
Frontage Road just east of North
Collins Street.
In August 2015, the Arlington
City Council approved a $5.5million development grant to
help D.R. Horton prepare the
site, which has development
challenges. The grant is designed
to help the company with drainage
improvements, roadways,
structured parking and other
infrastructure.
