The City was recognized with a Platinum Award from the Texas Comptroller
Leadership Circle for financial transparency. This is the newest and highest level
of transparency a city can achieve from the state comptroller. Arlington was one
of the first cities in the state to achieve this level of recognition.
Multiple Arlington departments
received accreditation in 2014.
For the first time ever, Arlington’s
Parks and Recreation Department
was accredited by the Commission
for Accreditation of Park and
Recreation Agencies (CAPRA).
Only 10 other cities in Texas and
135 nationwide have achieved this
recognition. The department was
also a finalist for a National Gold
Medal award from the National
Recreation and Park Association.
A team from Arlington’s Water
Utilities Department participated in a
statewide pipe tapping competition,
involving a race against time to drill
into a cement-lined ductile iron pipe
and install a tap. The process usually
takes 30 minutes; however, Arlington’s
team was able to complete the task
in less than three minutes. The team
of four, who practiced twice a week
on their own time, plans to complete
again next year for a state and
national award.

Transportation Department was
awarded a prestigious American
Public Works Association ReAccreditation. The department’s
director, Keith Melton, noted the
reaccreditation shows that the City
has continued to dedicate itself
to the “concepts of improvement
and in-depth self-assessment of
departmental policies, procedures
and practices.”
