Fort Walton Yacht Club Letter Log September 2018 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W At the Helm By Fleet Captain Shari Seaton Email: [email protected] I AM ALWAYS IMPRESSED by the amount of activity that goes on in the summer on our little spit of land. Every one of our volunteers who support our Fleet have worked hard for this summer and have continued to help in every way possible for the betterment of our club. The FWYC Ladies Sailing Team placed SECOND in the Knost Regatta!!!! The Knost Regatta is held each year and held for women only. This year the teams competed on the Viper. We owe a huge thank you to our sailing team and their support! I appreciate their efforts and also a big THANK YOU to Cece Stoldt for the photos! Cece is always right there with camera in hand ready to record our regattas. And not to be forgotten, congratulations to our winners: First Place Kip Keelin Second Place JD Sweitzer Third Place Russell Brown Small boat racing is a very popular activity each year having about fifty people participate in the Summer Series and Frosty Nipple Re- gattas. We have had a few glitches this year with ECSA’s procure- ment of new boats. Many of us will be learning new equipment and boat handling techniques for the coming years. We also have a new procedure for checking out club and ECSA boats. All Junior members and people under the age of eighteen (18) should have signed Summer Series permission forms completed in the office, before taking out any of Youngest Qualifier, the boats. John Douglas Harrison Wednesday Night Fun Races are going strong. Everyone is wel- come to join us on the point at 5:25 to see the start. WNFR continues through the end of September with the traditional Crew Recognition and Appreciation Party on October 3rd. Congratulations to the first Night Race winners: Rob Brown, Jeff Brown, Brian & Erin Smith, and Randy Smyth September 15th brings the annual Bay Challenge with Blue Water Bay Sailing Club and the ‘Round the Island 50/50 Regatta on the 21st through the 23rd.
