30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W September 2019 Letter Log Rear Commodore's Report Happy October, Club Members! My favorite time of the year is here and we have the Halloween Party just around the corner. Life is great! But first, let's catch you up on September's events... On Sept. 2, Labor Day, club members enjoyed a beautiful day at the club playing games, swimming, and just relaxing at our annual Labor Day Potluck. Lots of great food for all, including entries in our BBQ Ribs and Dessert competitions. This year, Jerry and Faye Black took home 1 st place honors. They brought their "A" game and BBQ'd up a set of ribs the judges loved! But it wasn't an easy choice - Wes Lockwood's "Bourbon Ribs" and Chris Washack's "Just Ribs" gave them a real run for the prize! In the Dessert competition, the Sellers won with an amazing Butterscotch Cake. For you chocolate lovers, the Conrads brought a-mazing Chocolate Cupcakes. On Friday, Sept. 9, the Lounge was jumping with lots of members, established and new, and the sounds of Rob Romens on guitar. Rob kept the crowd lively with rock, country, soul, pop and blues tunes from the 60's to today. Shout out to the Lounge staff. It's an ABSOLUTE pleasure to see the team rock it. Lots of great drink specials, special drinks and smiles to add to the enjoyment of the evening. Looking forward to this month's special concoctions, including Halloween! And speaking of Halloween, have we got a party planned for you! As the Party Lead, Jackie Chapman came up with the BEST Halloween theme. We're going back to the '80's, y'all! That's right, pull out your legwarmers, your Member's Only jackets, and your VHS movie collection-- we're taking it Old School and revisiting "Who Shot JR," "Where's the Beef," and "I'll be Back!" Party will be in the Lounge on Saturday, October 26 starting at 6 pm. Flash Flood is joining us for the retro evening. Prizes for best costumes. Dinner will be available (but not required) - menu will be announced later this month. Look for party inspiration in this Letter Log - the flyer is righteous! For all our new members -- this is the party NOT to be missed! Also coming up is our Thanksgiving Day Orphans Potluck on Nov. 28 and the Polar Express Boat Parade and Chili Cook-off on Wednesday, Dec. 18. More details coming soon! Until then, see you around the club! Cheers, Gina Rear Commodore, 2019 5
