FWYC Letter Log July 2017 | Página 5

M.A.C. Come down and join the “Guys” for an evening of Cigars (or not), Friendship and a great Sunset! July 20th @ 5:30pm Kudos! hile attending the 2017 GYA Offshore Challenge W Cup, FWYC’s Myasasuar encountered some adversity and rose to the occasion. On the second day of the three day regatta, the fleet raced out of Pensacola Pass toward the outer seabouy miles offshore. The breeze was sporty and the seas still a little rough from Tropical Storm Cindy. After rounding the seabouy, Craig and Deborah Wilusz and crew hoisted the chute and began to thunder for the finish line 12 miles away. Wham...the tiller sheared from the rudder head. With no steerage Myasasuar spun in cir- cles until the crew managed to reduce sail. The tiller dam- age was irreparable and help was a long way away. With ingenuity and a pair of vice grips, Craig, Deborah and crew managed to safely sail through Pensacola Pass. But that wasn’t good enough. The intrepid team could have sailed straight to Pensacola Yacht Club and sheared miles off their course but instead they chose to finish the race. Challenge Cup indeed! Great job Myasasuar.
