Junior Sailors win US Sailing’s Regional Championship
L
ocal junior sailors, George Hambleton, Ian Hunter and William Wells take home the 1st place trophy in US Sailing’s
Chubb Junior Regional Championships and earn the honor to
compete in the National Championship for the Sears Cup this fall in
Tom’s River, New Jersey.
This group of young men trounced their competition with an 8 point
lead for first place in a series of 9 races. Skipper Hambleton, lead his
crew in the triple handed Flying Scot races in Fairhope, Alabama.
Crew Hunter and Wells demonstrated their adept abilities to maneuver
and man the sails.
This is a great honor for these young men who teach sailing for the Em-
erald Coast Sailing Association, are members of the Fort Walton Yacht
Club, and sailed competitively for their school’s sailing club. They have
been actively competing in sailing races for numerous years. Collec-
tively, they have almost 29 years of sailing experience, 9 of which are in
racing, and have been sailing together for 3 years.
Hambleton, a graduate of Choctawhatchee High School, in Fort Walton Beach, will attend University of Florida this fall.
Hunter, a graduate of Niceville High School, in Niceville, will attend Jacksonville University this fall. Both will continue to
competitively sail in college. Wells, a rising 7th grader, attends Liza Jackson Preparatory School, in Mary Esther, will continue
to help instruct other young sailors with the Emerald Coast Sailing Association.
Congratulations on a well deserved win!
