Archelon ~ Boat Parade Winners

Greetings and Happy New Year ! It ’ s a great time to be a member of the Fort Walton Yacht Club . The results of the survey show that members are enjoying all aspects of the club and membership improvements that have been made need to be continued and expanded . We did notice some concerns and let me assure you that those concerns have been forwarded to the Flag Officers and Manager in hopes that we can further the positive movement at FWYC .

Two members of the Membership Committee who have been extremely valuable since the onset of the committee are rotating off or taking a leave of absence . Matt Chapman , will be stepping aside from the committee ’ s daily work . However , Matt will remain the primary person who gives tours to potential members . Pat Tye will be taking a leave of absence from the committee as she and David depart for points South .
FWYC is seeing more Seasonal Members now as winter guests migrate our way . PLEASE make everyone you don ’ t recognize feel at home as they find their place in paradise with the rest of us . It only take a few seconds to say hello , and it will make a difference in making all new members become part of the FWYC family .
The primary indication from the surveys was that we need more young members . This should not come as a surprise to anyone , as that has been the case for many years . The Membership Committee will propose several initiatives toward that end in 2017 . Having sailing and water activities to attract younger children may be a start . Craig and Deborah Wilusz began a program for smaller children here at FWYC . It gets them on the water twice a week sailing Prams and Sunfish . Neighboring yacht clubs have found success with similar programs . If the children become interested , their parents hopefully will find time in their busy lives to join in support of their child ’ s
