30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W February 2020 Letter Log FWYC Juniors Rock Best Overall Junior Sailor for 2019 John Douglas Harrison JD has been sailing most of his 10 years of life. He comes from a family of accomplished racing sailors, so his success has come as no surprise to most people. Sailing Director Paul Beaudry (right) presents the trophies to the Outstanding Junior Sailors for 2019 Best Overall Junior Sailor - John Douglas Harrison (represented by his dad, Robert) Best Sportsmanship - Lucas Bailey Best Male Junior Sailor - Cole Remis Best Female Junior Sailor - Katherine Custer In June 2019, JD raced in the Junior Olympic Sailing Festival at the Pensacola Yacht Club, getting first in Green Fleet. In August, he raced in his first Red White & Blue regatta, the Galloway Regatta at Gulfport YC. Also in August he raced in the Junior Olympic Rock Paper Scissors Regatta in Birmingham. In September 2019, he got third in RWB Fleet JD with his 3 rd at the Chappell Stitt Regatta at Place Trophy at PYC. In November, JD traveled the Chappell Stitt Regatta to New Orleans and raced in the 2019 Opti Midwinter Championships at Southern YC. He found fierce competition and extra strong wind on Lake Pontchartrain. In the local Opti races, JD is consistently in first place. His next regatta will be the second weekend in February at St. Petersburg YC for the Valentine’s Day Regatta . Well done, John Douglas. Keep up the good work. 14
